The Mind, a real experience
The Mind is not just a game. Because of its original game mechanics, The Mind is a unique experience. In The Mind, players must work as a team in order to collectively pass all levels of the game. Yes, but lo and behold, progress will have to be made in silence, without the possibility of exchanging any information.
The Mind, a game based on intentions and patience
The Mind contains cards numbered from 1 to 100. Your goal will be to collectively complete all levels by constituting a growing suite.
In one level, each player receives a card hand equal to the number of cards in the level: one card in level 1, two cards in level 2, and so on. To pass a level, all cards must be played in order. Each player knows his cards, but only his own.
No communication is allowed, whether orally, by signs or otherwise. Participants simply look each other in the eye. After this moment of silence, after gauging the cards of other players, if a person deems it his turn, then he can play his lowest card.
At this point, there are two solutions:
- If no one holds a lower card, it's great, the game goes on!
- Otherwise, all players get rid of the lower cards than the one played, and the player who made the mistake loses a life.
The Mind, a game with shuriken
At the beginning of the game, the players all have a number of lives equal to the number of participants. A player is eliminated when he has no life. Each player also has a shuriken, which is a kind of joker. To use it, all players must agree on its use at the same time. At this point, each player gets rid of his lowest face-up card, giving everyone valuable information about the cards still in play. By completing the levels, players receive a shuriken or an extra life as a reward.
If you manage to complete all levels, the game is won!
The Mind, a variant to complicate the game
And if The Mind becomes too simple, a variant exists to make the game more difficult. In this extreme mode, players play all the cards on the face-down stack and only look at the cards played at the end of a level.
The Mind, an award-winning game at Cannes
The game won the 2019 Golden Ace of the Year, an award that rewards family games accessible to the general public and originals in their mechanics and in their editing.
