Rubedo - En Quête d'Alchimie

Each game of Rubedo is a quest. The early phases of the Work may seem slow and demanding: sometimes you must part with still-valuable cards, even as everything remains to be accomplished. This tension is part of the alchemical path: transformation never happens without renunciation. 

As the Work progresses, choices become clearer and the pace accelerates. But alchemy remains unpredictable: nothing is ever fully decided in advance…

In a game of Rubedo, two to four alchemists embark on a mysterious and ancient quest: to realize the Philosopher's Stone.

Object of all quests, the Philosopher's Stone embodies an ideal, that of the transmutation of base metals into gold… and the elixir of long life. 

But more than that, it symbolizes the ultimate attainment of the being, the perfect fusion of matter and spirit.

To hope to achieve it, each alchemist must first gather their Materia Prima, then cross the four stages of the Great Work:

Nigredo, the Black Work :

decomposition, dissolution, introspection

Albedo, the White Work :

purification, separation, clarity

Citrinitas, the Yellow Work :

illumination, revelation, maturation

Rubedo, the Red Work :

unification, exaltation, accomplishment

The alchemist who first crosses the ultimate stage of Rubedo – and thus achieves the Philosopher's Stone – wins the game.
