Description

Azul, a game with a sweet Iberian fragrance

In Azul, you play as a 16th century craftsman responsible for decorating the Royal Palace of Evora, the sumptuous home of the King of Portugal. To do this, you will need to show off your artistic fiber and your craftsmanship in order to make up the most beautiful mosaic. The task is going to be tricky and the competition will be tough. Other competitors are in the race and intend to prevent you from fulfilling your mission. Only the most beautiful fresco will adorn the walls of the palace. Become the most prestigious craftsman of royalty!

Azul, a game of colorful mosaics

Each player has a board with a pattern to complete. 7 discs are placed in the center of the table, composed of 4 mosaics of different colors. Players will have to complete their fresco with the pieces of earthenware on the discs. When a player selects a disc, he must take all the mosaics of the color of his choice. The other colors are arranged in the center of the table. The mosaics chosen by the player are placed in a preparation area. The latter consists of lines that players will have to complete beforehand before they can place the pieces of earthenware in the pattern of the fresco.

A game takes place in several rounds. Each round ends when all the mosaics have been played. It is at this point that the balance of the round is made and the players complete their pattern.

Azul, a strategic game

Players score points depending on how they complete the pattern. Thus, if during the game, a player manages to develop columns or tile lines, he will increase his points tenfold. Similarly, it may also lose points in some cases. For example, if it fails to place all the mosaics of the same color on a line its the preparation area, it will lose as many points as unplaced earthenware.

The game ends as soon as a participant completes a line of his or her pattern. At the end of the game, players will be able to collect bonuses if they have made up a line, a column or if a color is complete in their mosaic.

As you will have understood, Azul turns out to be a very strategic game where players seek to place their tiles in order to score as much as possible. They may also seek to block or restrain other craftsmen in the development of their fresco.
