The Call of Cthulhu, the role-playing game of mystery and horror

Designed for both beginners and old role-playing game breakcards, this basic box is a starter kit that contains everything you need to start playing in the Lovecraft universe. To take its first steps smoothly in this game system, the box incorporates a book-like scenario of how you are the hero: Only against the flames.
Once this initiation adventure is completed, players and goalkeepers will then be able to delve into the three scenarios contained in booklet 3 of the box.

Your mission: investigation

This base box features five pre-drawn investigators that can be used in all three Scenarios in Book 3. However, players can also design their own characters using the rules of Book 2.
All members of the Society for the Exploration of the Unexplained (SEI), an informal and unofficial grouping, these five investigators are tasked with uncovering terrible secrets, confronting strange creatures and thwarting the plans of evil sects.
When an interesting case arises, the company's leaders choose the investigators who will scramble to solve the mystery...

As outstanding investigators, you will be able to create and develop a story in which your characters are the main protagonists, determined to defeat ambitious plots or to stop monsters emerging from the abyss of space and time!

How a game unfolds

One player leads the game: the Guardian of the Arcanes. It is up to him to ensure that the rules are respected and to present the plot to the other participants. You can imagine a part as a kind of play where the actors would not have a text written in advance. The dice and the rules of the game help determine whether your character succeeds or fails in his or her business, while you find yourself immersed in dramatic and agonizing situations.

The scenarios of the basic box

In addition to the first introductory solo scenario: Alone Against the Flames, the base box contains 3 mysterious adventures:

- The one who devoured the books: Addressing 1 or 2 players plus the Guardian, this scenario is relatively short (between 1 to 3 hours). The Investigators are immersed in a story of burglary and stolen books. Mixing theft, disappearance and espionage, this case is the strangest.
- At the Frontier of Darkness: Designed to be played from 2 to 5 players in addition to the Guardian, this adventure is ideal for creating a group of investigators. As the characters gather around the deathbed of a mutual friend, he uses his last strengths to relieve his conscience. This secret will plunge players into a spiritualistic investigation.
- The Jazz of the Macchabée: The story takes place in the 1920s in Harlem. Racial stereotypes and violence are at the heart of this adventure. In this harsh historical context, investigators will be immersed in jazz clubs in the midst of prohibition.
